Digital Still life

I found all this old yet cool housewares items at a local thrift story. They were having a 50% off sale and I wasn't about to pass it up. This still life image was created using one of the fabulous items purchased. It took a little over 30 minutes to complete. I was merely using this an an exercise in value vs. color. Also, a study to show how strokes reinforce form.

Mystical, magical, human, guy, thing...

I am really into Notan, Chiaroscuro, texture, and stroke economy right now. This was sketched in a 6" x 9" Rebert Bateman sketchbook in about an hour and a half. The initial sketch took aprox 15 min while the remaining time was spent on the rendering. I generally take much longer on my own personal work than I do on production work. Not sure why that is, but it is what it is...

Taking the old and making new

This was based on an old drawing I did about 5 years ago... yuk, puke. If I was to put the original image here it would be much like jabbing your eyes out slowly with some sharp object such as a a dull knife and laughing as you... oh sorry, I got ahead of myself. You get the point :). Anyhoo, it was pretty bad but the idea was still there. As a matter of fact I found it sitting between my cerebral cortex and my lower intestines screaming, "SET ME FREE". I'm not sure which innerd it was closest to but I am sure we can deduce by the screaming that it had to be closer to my lower int..es..t... em *cough* *cough*... I digress

More to the point, this is a re-design slash re-render of an old Russian type guard idea I once drew for some facility in some cold continent of the world. I have been self-searching lately and found there are things I like more than others and its OK; I am very interested in the atelier approaches to art and wanted to add these approaches to my everyday workflow until they become a transparent part of my workflow. I have known these academic approaches for quite some time but have not put them to the serious test in my everyday approach up until recently. Its about time I put this stuff to use...

I will be updating this until I feel it is complete as either a solid sketch or perhaps a final painting with color and everything :). We will see.

Moving on...

Went out with a few friends oil painting. This is not a great image but it was all I could get with my phone for now.

My rendition of a Gnome DK

The Gnome DK was inspired from a small Wow contest. However, I created this sketch for fun without any true intentions of finishing the image. I also did not intend its accuracy to a WOW Gnome DK. I haven't played WOW in about a year and a half so I wouldn't know the perfect build of the character anyways. I began researching the race and class but there was nothing I could really grab onto as it were. I figured that if I tried to make it accurate but did not have the resources to do so I might push into the "uncanny valley" so I just made it all up as I went. It was just a fun idea I wanted to get out of my brain. I might finish it but I'm not sure if I will have time to spare anytime soon. We will see :)
